Aizawl, December 7, 2025: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) is set to formally launch the Students’ Aid Fund, an extensive financial assistance programme aimed at ensuring that no Mizo student discontinues education due to financial hardship. The initiative will be inaugurated on 10 December 2025 at Woodland Hills, Rooftop, Zonuam, Aizawl, with Pu Laldhuoma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, attending as the chief guest.
According to official guidelines approved by the MZP General Headquarters Executive Committee, the fund—established through Resolution No. 8 dated 30 September 2025—has been created to promote equal educational access and support students from low-income, rural, and marginalized backgrounds.
Comprehensive Support for Students
The MZP Students’ Aid Fund will provide assistance for:
- Tuition, admission, and examination fees
- Hostel and mess expenses
- Textbooks, stationery, and academic materials
- Emergency medical needs
- Other essential academic requirements verified by the Committee
Financial support may be provided either as a grant or an interest-free loan, depending on the student’s assessed need and the fund’s capacity. All disbursements will strictly adhere to transparency norms and will be used solely for educational purposes.
Transparent and Regulated Fund Management
The fund will be managed by the Students’ Aid Fund Management Committee (SAFMC), chaired by the MZP President and supported by office-bearers, nominated educationists, student representatives, a Joint Hnampual member, and a legal advisor.
The fund will be maintained in a dedicated bank account, with annual audits, utilization certificates, and reporting to ensure accountability. Donations from alumni, community members, NGOs, CSR partners, and government bodies will constitute the primary sources of funding.
Eligibility and Application Process
Any Mizo student currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution and able to demonstrate financial need is eligible to apply. Priority will be given to:
- Rural students
- Differently-abled students
- First-generation college students
- ST and underrepresented communities
- Students without access to other major scholarships
Applicants must submit required documents, including proof of enrollment, and may undergo verification, interviews, or home visits if needed.
Strict Ethical Standards
The guidelines impose strong safeguards to prevent misuse:
- Submission of false documents will lead to full repayment, disqualification, and legal action.
- Misuse of funds will result in recovery and permanent ineligibility.
- Recipients engaging in misconduct may have their aid suspended or withdrawn.
Significant Step for Educational Equity
MZP leaders stated that the Students’ Aid Fund represents a major milestone in advancing educational equity in Mizoram. The initiative aligns with the organisation’s long-standing mission of supporting Mizo students and strengthening opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The fund will come into effect immediately upon launch, replacing prior aid schemes previously run by MZP.
