Aizawl, December 7, 2025: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the state’s largest student organization, is set to formally launch the MZP Students’ Aid Fund, a comprehensive financial assistance initiative designed to support economically challenged Mizo students and ensure uninterrupted access to education.
The fund aims to promote equal educational opportunities, reduce financial barriers, and provide targeted support to low-income and marginalized learners. According to MZP, the initiative has been created to ensure that “economic hardship does not interrupt the education of deserving students.”
Wide Range of Support
Under the scheme, eligible students may receive assistance for:
- Tuition, admission, and examination fees
- Hostel and mess expenses
- Books, stationery, and other academic materials
- Emergency medical needs
Priority Beneficiaries
The aid fund will prioritize:
- Students from rural areas
- Differently-abled learners
- First-generation college students
- Scheduled Tribe and other underrepresented communities
- Students who lack access to other financial support schemes
Transparent and Community-Driven Funding
The fund will be supported through MZP fundraising drives, contributions from community members, alumni, NGOs, institutions, CSR partners, and potential government support. MZP has emphasized that fund management will be transparent and accountable, with strict guidelines to prevent misuse.
Application and Disbursement
Students seeking assistance can apply through the Students’ Aid Fund Management Committee (SAFMC) by submitting required documents and responding to verification inquiries. Disbursement will be based on the level of need, either via bank transfer or directly to institutions, and may be released in installments. All beneficiaries must sign an undertaking.
MZP has also outlined ethical guidelines, noting that submission of false documents or misuse of funds will result in repayment, disqualification, and potential legal action.
The launch event, scheduled for December 10, 2025 at Woodland Hills, Aizawl, will mark a major step in MZP’s ongoing efforts to support educational equity in Mizoram, coinciding with the organisation’s 90th anniversary.
